Total Fire Protection (TFP or Company) specializes in all aspects of sales and service of Fire and Life Safety products. We are a recognized leader in the fire protection industry and provide our services and products both nationally and locally. Our customer base ranges from commercial to residential buildings, and tenants to retail stores, hospitals, schools, construction and transportation industries, giving us the opportunity to sell our products and services to a variety of businesses.

Total Fire Protection is currently looking to fill the position of Director of Field Operations. As the Director of Field Operations, you will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer, and have direct oversight of multiple managers including Service Manager, Scheduling Manager, Shop Manager, and Operations Manager, that make up the Field Operations Department. You will oversee / manage a total of 25-30 indirect team members within these departments. The Director of Field Operations will be responsible for a critical division in the company, will be identifying opportunities for increased revenue and upselling, and will be in a position of influence in the future growth and success of the Company.

Responsibilities Across All Departments (Operations Department):

• Manage and supervise a department of personnel including field technicians, scheduling department, maintenance shop / inventory, and operations
• Implement best practices and standard operating procedures for the whole Field Operations Department
• Oversee all logistical components of the operations department to ensure all work is effectively scheduled and completed, in a timely and quality manner
• Uphold all company policies and procedures
• Conduct training and performance monitoring for the entire operations department (including technicians, scheduling team and shop personnel) • Develop standardized training program for the three operations teams • Assist in recruitment and retention of qualified personnel
• Handling service contracts and directing support services
• Attending industry-related training to remain current with new local and state codes
• Work with internal Company departments to help forecast expected product needs

Service Department (Field Technicians):

• Directly supervise the Service Manager to oversee field technicians in ensuring the Company has the manpower necessary to execute the workload in the most productive and efficient manner
• Encourage and coach technicians to identify opportunities of selling all company services in the field
• Ensure all technicians are properly trained in delivering services in a safe manner, in accordance with all relative labor regulations
• Help introduce a means of properly tracking, monitoring, and reporting on field technician production
• Provide guidance and support to the Field Training Supervisor

Scheduling Department:

• Oversee the team of Schedulers responsible for scheduling and dispatching technicians to appropriate locations per customer, scheduled maintenance, customer requests and emergency service calls
• Liaising with the Scheduling Department for seamless delegation of work product
• Supervise the Scheduling team in making sure they implement a seamless delegation of work product in maximizing field productivity

Shop Management:

• Responsible for effective management of all inventory by implementing a solution for efficient inventory control management
• Verifying inventory in both the shop and company vans to maximize productivity
• Work with Shop Manager to ensure the necessary parts and raw materials required are available
• Determine how many man hours are needed to execute delivery/service of inventory
• Reviewing in detail both incoming and outgoing work orders for accuracy

You must possess:

• The ability to lead, direct the work of others, and foster an environment of creativity with a proven track record of performing these functions before in the service industry
• Previous experience in a scheduling/dispatching environment
• Superior organizational and leadership skills
• The ability to perform in a fast-paced environment
• Effective listening and communication skills • The ability to handle difficult customers with diplomacy and tact
• Minimum of five (5) years’ prior customer service and managerial experience in this or similar field is a must
• Proven track record of having managed a team or teams of service technicians in a service industry
• History of having implemented effective productivity solutions in a service industry
• Ability to develop and implement a strategic plan to ensure work days are effectively and efficiently planned towards maximizing field technician productivity
• Creative thinker in identifying opportunities to upsell Company services in the field by field technicians
• The ability to adapt to new systems and procedures
• The ability to understand the quality and level of service Company delivers to their customers
• Self-motivation, strong work ethic, skilled in developing processes, career-oriented
• Drive, persistence, and the ability to meet and exceed customer service expectations
• Ability to function independently in a team environment
• Professional appearance and stable work history
• Bachelor’s degree in related Business Management or related field preferred
• Experience in the Fire and Life Safety service industry
